Cloud Foundry is an essential component of cloud computing architectures. Cloud
native applications need to be deployed to any cloud at any time which requires an
effective open platform-as-a-service. Cloud Foundry is the first and only cloud
native application platform in the industry and is built by an open source

Over the past 12 months, the adoption of the platform continues to accelerate which
has also increased the number of new requirements for the software. Earlier this
year, the Cloud Foundry Foundation established a goal to increase the number of
cloud foundry ‘dojos’ where open source developers could be trained to be effective
contributors. A ‘dojo’ is a Japanese word that translates to ‘the place of the way’
where students are trained to learn the skills and techniques of martial arts.

Growing the open source community requires selecting the right people, with the
right set of skills and cultivating an environment that fosters innovation,
productivity, collaboration and fun. In this keynote, you will learn about the
experiences that were gained in building the first cloud foundry dojo outside of
Pivotal Labs in San Francisco. The session will highlight the selection process of
candidates, their training experiences, the work environment and the projects that
the developers have worked on.
